Generations of Involvement

When many people think of The Basilica Landmark they think of a huge iconic church at the west end of our city’s skyline. To our family it is much more than that. For within these walls my family has celebrated the happiest of times that life has to offer and it is where we come in the hardest times of sadness and grief. For it is the building itself and the community of people with in that we treasure.

Our Basilica story first began when Henry and Kathleen Baron married at The Basilica of Saint Mary in 1946. Henry was on the first parish council and Kathleen was a true "church lady" in every sense of the word. What Kathleen loved most was serving the poor and finding and bringing the angels, Crèche and the sacred heart statue to The Basilica.

The Union of The Baron’s produced 7 children, one of whom is my husband, Bill. So often I listen to Bill tell stories of going to grade school and church at The Basilica.

Kathleen dedicated a lifetime to serving the church. She was inspirational when she was alive, and now that she is no longer with us, we are motivated to carry on her legacy. Our son Alex is the 4th generation to belong to The Basilica.

Our family supports The Basilica Landmark because of what it means to us and to so many other people in our communities. We want The Basilica to be here for generations to come.
