Basilica School Bathroom Renovation:Complete!

It’s an incredible feeling…it’s the rarest of the rare. It’s a place where you can get clarity. You can hear a string quartet in there. And you can hear what they’re playing…the Minnesota (Symphonia), for example, or a small baroque group, or a chamber choir. Yet you get this tremendous tidal wave of sound with large (musical productions)…For an organist in particular, it’s as good as it gets.

Dr. Kim Kasling, former Basilica organist

While much attention is rightly given to our beautiful church, much of our programming and educational activities occur in our historic (and older) school building. In addition, the school building houses a charter school that provides much-needed rental income to The Basilica. Unfortunately, other than routine maintenance, we have not directed many resources to our school building.

The school building's needs include new plumbing for the building and renovation of bathrooms on the east and west ends of the building, and re-roofing the central portion of the school. Some of the plumbing is original- and very old!- and professionals on our maintenance committee were concerned that if we did not move forward immediately more serious repairs could be needed.

Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor, the bathrooms on the west end of the school were renovated in September 2010. Renovation of the bathrooms on the east end of the building were completed in the Summer of 2011.
